This exciting new initiative is funded by several programs: a USDA ReConnect grant, a USDA Community Connect grant and the Vermont Community Broadband’s Affordable Drop program.
ZIIP is intended to cover the cost of installing underground conduit or an extra long fiber line from our main line, which is usually on the nearest road, to the owner’s building.
If either of these apply to you, please apply for our limited-time free installation, which began March 15, 2026. Read on for the details.
Who Qualifies?
Those who have our service available at their location. Please go to net.nekbroadband.org to find out the latest information. If you haven’t registered on that website yet, now is the time!
Any household that has an income level below $750,000.
Priorities
We will prioritize households whose income is less than 400% above the federal poverty level.
Program End
Funds must be used by September 30, 2026. If you are interested, don’t wait to sign up to secure your place in line.
How to Apply
Complete the ZIIP application below.
Your application will then be added to the waiting list, with priority households served first. We are working hard to complete every one. After households that meet the income priority are done, installations will be completed on a first-come, first-served basis, so apply now!
DIYers
If you want to dig the trench and install the conduit yourself as a way to try to get installation sooner, here are the detailed instructions.
Installation Process
All installations begin with a technician scouting your property. No appointment needed.
If installation of our fiber-optic line on utility poles to your home is not possible, the tech will determine whether there is an existing underground conduit that can be used.
A test called “rodding” will be done to make sure existing conduit is in good condition. If not, new conduit will be installed.
Underground conduit cannot have both electricity and internet lines in the same one.
